So this guy brings me this Vista laptop. Every time it boots it gives you 2 choices: try repair mode or boot normally. Either option eventually takes you back to the same 2 options. I eventually get by this problem only to run into another: once it boots into Windows I can't get a video display. Nothing but a black screen. Safe mode, nothing. VGA mode, nothing. I'm thinkin' this sucker is history, then all of a sudden it starts showing signs of life. Several Vista Repair Disk attempts and a few chkdsk's later I finally got the video working. I got to a login screen and called the owner for a password, only to find out he doesn't know it. Sooo I get by that, finally get it to boot into Windows WITH video, only to discover windows explorer keep crashing and reloading, thus making it impossible to do anything else. As a last resort, I try booting up in command line mode. It works! I copy all music/pics/etc. to a usb stick (via old DOS commands) and prepare to reinstall Vista. Have I mentioned the owner doesn't have Vista disks and this particular install lacks the usual re-install partition? Sooo I download a Vista Home Premium ISO file (don't ask), create an installation disk and give it a go. It fucking worked!!! This laptop (which most techs would have written off) is now purring along just fine, and I saved about 10Gb worth of irreplacable photos, documents, music and more for my customer. Can I cook, or what? ;D

You cook!!
Wanna come to Colorado to fix my laptop? It sounds like it has a similar issue...it tries to start but can't and gives you the option to let it try to repair itself but then can't. I have tried restoring to previous restore points, but no dice.
BTW...it started doing this one morning after a Windows Update about two or three weeks ago (that's why I tried the restore points)

The Laptop From Hell made an unexpected return today. :faint:
Long story short: if you re-install Vista on a Toshiba laptop with a Dell OEM disk, don't expect the product code on the COA sticker to work until after you've installed SP1 and the 46+ updates that follow it.

I think BeeGee still has an excellent memory! Oh...wait....yer talkin' 'bout the computer aren't you. I think you're right about the memory. It's possible he might just need a good cleaning up...again..the computer that is. ;D Don't kill me BeeGee. You've probably done this Beegee, but if not look at how much memory your computer came with and see if you can add more. Type your model in (search engine) and get the specs if you don't have them readily available. Most are capable of adding more when you buy them. And memory is cheap...about 30 bucks....if you stick it in yourself. Another thing for those of you who....like me don't have a very high speed connection. When you watch videos and they skip/stop push your pause button and if you look closely (on most vids) you will see the bar advancing. Let it go a ways ahead of you 30 seconds or so...depending on your speed...and then push play. You'll get an uninterupted viewing.

SO, Grand Pooh Bah of the LapTop world, will you be able to make mine run like a new one? Huh, can you? I'll let you keep ALL the dirt you pull out of it to start your own country, and it's all imported to boot.

Don't want no scorpions running around here! Although my cats might think it's fun.

Hey rid & MAK, as far as memory goes, my hard drive is 100 Gb with 73.3 avail. My RAM is 3.4 Gb and 2.6 avail. running on an Intel core Duo CPU 8300 @ 2.83 GHz. I was also wondering if I could not have some system conflicts running Adobe Aire, Adobe Flash Player 10 Active X, Adobe Reader X (10.0.1), Adobe Shockwave Player 11.5, Microsoft Silver Light 4.0.60129.0 BeeGee Nothing like a timely response, right? You're on the right track. YouTube uses Adobe Flash. Try upgrading your Flash player. More info: www.google.com/support/youtube/bin/answer.py?answer=56115
