Not going to argue with you on that point either, Reason.
I'm not willing to return to the days of lynch mobs and can't really think of a better trial system with my limited knowledge of the law, so I will just leave it that this seems to be the most reasonable system I can think of.
And as a result, this means that those we are fairly certain have committed some despicable crimes are entitled to the same due process as those we are fairly certain are innocent are. I will continue to rely on attorneys and the judicial system to sort them out. It's not a flawless system, but I'm not aware of any way to make it better.

Well, not really. The knowledge that the adversary system will not work without both sides having vigorous advocacy is enough to allow the attorney to sleep like a baby. Well, gee, I wonder how a defense attorney might feel if his/her child was brutally murdered, all the evidence is there, but there's another attorney defending the murderer and playing the same game he does on a daily basis? Gee, would that attorney look at things in a bit different perspective? Hmmmmmmm........... Tonya

Unless, that is, they would like to be able to sleep at night............ TonyaTonya that statement is really unfair of you. Are you suggesting that noone deserves a defense? I am sure there is a reason that state appointed defense attorneys sign a contract that doesn't allow them to refuse cases and this one is a good example. EVERYONE, by law, is entitled to a defense. Therefore, the state must contract with attorneys requiring them to accept cases they might otherwise balk at. This contract is what allows an attorney that is defending a vile case to sleep at night.Barb Who said life was fair Barb? Tonya

Gentlemen, No further questions at this moment......... TonyaTonya, Maybe you would enjoy a course on Constitutional law or a criminal justice or paralegal course that would help you better understand our legal system. Maybe I have had my fill of our legal system..........it sucks! Tonya

If your child was brutally murdered you lose objectivity. If I have an attorney representing me, I hope he strives for objectivity.

Not sure how objective he could be watching your boobs bounce up and down like that! It's the judge and jury made up of heterosexual males that I am trying to distract with the bouncing boobies. My lawyer is a heterosexual woman or a homosexual male...or blind. ;D

Maybe I have had my fill of our legal system..........it sucks! TonyaYou smoke too much crack, Tonya. Our legal system is the best on the planet. Name some other countries who have a better legal system. Now, the Republicans are trying their best to fuck up the legal system with their "tort reform", which is merely an attempt to prevent injured people from collecting damages when big business is neglectful and causes injuries. Better the poor injured person suck it up than to burden businesses with internalizing the costs of the harm they do. Tonya, what is your beef? Why are you bitching so much about the X-Box Murder trial? If they're guilty, and pretty obviously they are, they'll be convicted. Is it important to you that the system is rigged against them?

You're right Reason. I've got a meth lab in my shed. I sell crack to teenagers and threaten their lives if they don't pay up. Go ahead, have me arrested. I'll just get a public defender. ;D Tonya

No, I believe you are confusing yourself, Reason, and therefore making false accusations against me. My beef is with the delays. This trial should have begun several months ago. This is a mockery of our "very best in the world" justice system. One more thing Reason. Have you got that arrest warrant out for me? ;D Tonya

I don't do arrest warrants, sorry.
As for your beef with the delays, I guess you disagree with John Tanner, the State Attorney? He agreed with the defense attorneys that a fair jury couldn't be found in these parts. Is he a slimeball. too?
Your ignorance about defrense attorneys is getting tiresome, and if you knew anything about how the system works, you'd be embarrassed by your posts. You malign criminal defense attorneys, but they serve an important role in ensuring justice for all.

Didn't this just happen last year? If so, it takes a long time to prepare for a case like this Tonya.....for both sides of the fence. The more prepared they are, and the more organized with the evidence, the more likely that they will secure a guilty conviction that cannot be overturned on technicality. And we all want that.
I am sure this isn't the only case the attorneys have and it is essential they are well prepared.
