Loud cell-phone talker removed from quiet car by police
By Liz Goodwin liz Goodwin Wed May 18, 10:01 am ET
A woman who was escorted off an Amtrak train by police this weekend after she allegedly
refused to stop talking loudly on her cell-phone has the Internet cheering her fate.
Civilians and quiet-car champions are supporting her ejection for violating policy at high
volume during the 16-hour journey. It doesn't help her cause that she became
belligerent when confronted about it by one of her fellow passengers.

Give her a break, is she not allowed to speak up loudly about Obama not paying her mortgage like he promised?

I suspect not.
Exactly the point. He didn't promise, but perception is everything and certainly some felt they wouldn't have to worry about putting gas in their car or paying their mortgage....I wonder how that is working for this person now?

I am shocked. And not a little disturbed, either.
If you don't get the wit/joke, it's really ok. I will answer your question though - it had nothing to do with the article...get it?
Being shocked because of your own erroneous determination of my meaning/intent, well, that's a leap and one I don't plan to take with you.

Humor, How does Humor Work?
Humor involves incongruity. The humorous response is created by revealing incongruous elements that create surprise by deviating from the expected.

Oh why am I not surprised?
Some posters here want to believe their racist thoughts are accurate. However, it is they who had the racial thoughts. Well, inferred them into my post anyway. My thoughts were about how unaware this person must have been of what was going on around her. At the time, I was listening to a show about the financial state of the economy with a focus on gas prices and where they were going. The sound bite of the woman saying she didn't have to worry about putting gas in her car was played - I thought about how she was unaware too. I drew the correlation with humor in my mind thinking hey, maybe the phone lady was ticked off about what she's paying for gas now. The birth of the thought came through that prism. Not through the racist prism these posters painted. But then, some view the world differently than others.
The fact that these posters here saw it as something bigoted actually says more about them than about me - well, of course, to me it says more about them, but then I have the advantage of actually knowing what I was thinking.
You guys own your own implications. They don't belong to me, no matter how much you want them to, or how much you want to keep pushing away at it.
But hey, why believe me? I'm just the one who formulated the correlation.
Try to have some fun kiddies. Life is short. Don't read so much into things and go so immediately rigid in your position. You just may be wrong and then you just look silly.

Aww shucks Brent, not "everyone" agrees with that. But hey, if it floats your boat, believe it. Whatever you read into it is obviously real to you. As long as it's real to you that's all that matters. I see that. Since I don't know you and you don't know me, you must be right.

Ok, dinner was fantastic! I see we are still totally confused around this galvanizing topic. I'm giving this one last effort to try to lift the fog of made up minds and if there is still an effort to argue and microscopically analyze, then clearly, nothing will change minds that are made up and just want to pigeon hole and fight and with that I will then take my leave of a hopeless cause.
Are you ready? Takes some amount of words to HOPEFULLY be clear. <Gee who says that? Oh yes....
But I digress..
Ask yourself this question, what if it had nothing to do with being black? Back away, at least momentarily, from a quickly formed and rigid impression. There, now you are on the right track.
Random and separate events, one superimposed on another. Kinda like setting up a joke. Like if it was the Obama voter on the train, (make her white if you like, it really doesn't matter) what could she be loudly talking about. It was no longer the woman in the article, it was the Obama voter.
If the Obama voter was white it wouldn't make any difference. It was the random connection of the two completely separate incidents. Again, *sigh* it IS the actual incongruity that some of you keep trying to figure out, that is the joke. The political tie in is incidental and was simply the catalyst generated by my own surrounding influences at the moment.

I posted this in post #16. Yet some people were still trying to figure out how it related, while others got it. It never did. It was never intended to. It was the Obama voter ( black or white) placed on the train, loudly upset now, that she had to worry about her mortgage and putting gas in her car. It was no longer the woman on the train in the story. Incongruity. Random element superimposed on another.
Yet a few just jump in with the racist and bigot thing and even when I attempt to have them see that this was not what it was about, they stick to it like glue and keep trying to make it into something it was not.
Then I have to explain it to the point where all humor is completely gone and then oh my, how easy it is to say it wasn't funny. Again, those who chose to play the race card, missed the point and looked for the worst in something that was just a twist on the situation to imagine one <jokingly> possible content of that phone call.
You guys just made a leap because the president is black, the train rider is black and the voter is black. Make them all white. The joke, (which was the incongruity) is the same.
The greens tell the tale. People do actually get it.
By the way, I'm Irish. Bring on the Irish jokes, I love them. They make me laugh almost as much as the Italian, or the Newfie <Canada> jokes.
