The way I see it our two party system is broken. Both sides are to blame, as well as slanted (right and left) news programs, printed press and talk shows. These yahoo's in Washington are more worried about their party and getting re-elected than doing what is right. I truly believe some men and women run for office with the good intentions of making a difference. However, not long after they arrive they are indoctrinated into the 'it's us against them' mentality. They more or less have to choose sides. As a result nothing useful is accomplished. Too bad. I honestly think we should have a NO party system. Each man or women runs on their own platform...not the parties platform. You elect the individual you think is best for the job given their accomplishments, actions, record etc., not their party affiliation. I realize many of us do vote for who we think is best (and not the party) anyway, but they are still connected to that party and the connection is too strong for them to overcome and be fair and effective. This might also eliminate the troublesome and sometime radical groups, organizations etc., that often cling to one party or the other.

The two-party system can and should work. It gives us different perspectives and views on important issues, and that's a good thing. I think the reason it isn't working is because we have too many people voting a straight ticket without taking a good look at the issues. They're too entrenched on one side or the other to admit that both parties have good ideas. I have never associated myself with either party and I never will. I don't need a party to tell me how to vote. I educate myself on the issues and vote for the candidate whose direction is most appealing to me. I'm never completely satisfied with candidates from either side because my opinions don't fall along party lines, so I usually end up voting for the lesser of two evils. I'm not saying my way is the right way, but it works for me.
