My daughter was over today, telling me that I am eligible for an upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 and it will only cost me about $80. The MS website says the same thing. I am pretty happy with Vista and don't know if I want to learn a new system. If I switch from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium, will there be any benefit to me when I mainly use my computer for internet browsing, facebook, posting to forums: yours and my local newspaper forum, email, and playing PC games, some I buy from local stores and some I download from Big Fish Games? You're the computer expert here, so I will take your word for it. I have not seen Windows 7 in action. (I am guessing that staying with Vista and saving that $80 is going to be your advice.)

This is just anecdotal, but when my daughter upgraded her laptop to Windows 7, it started having serious overheating issues and eventually became inoperable, even when she went back to Vista. There evidently was something about Windows 7, when put on a slightly older, Vista machine, that was ultimately not compatible with the hardware, and Microsoft was aware of the problem but could issue no patch to fix it, and Toshiba basically made the hardware intentionally obsolete.

To me Vista is ME's little brother. Windows 7 is so much better IMO.

I tried Ubuntu on this machine when I first got it. It was a used machine and the hard drive with the operating system had been removed by the previous owner. I got a blank hard drive, installed Ubuntu on it and then I could only play games on it. None of my other software would work on it. After a short time, I paid a computer place to reinstall Vista Home Premium on it. It cost me about $80 for this service. I have been using it for about 2 years now with no problems. I guess I'm just not computer savvy enough for Linux.
